The UAB Health System announced on Thursday that an agreement has been reached with UnitedHealthcare to continue providing services to patients.
“This agreement ensures that UnitedHealthcare members can continue to access care from all UAB and UAB-affiliated medical providers without any disruption to services,” the system stated. “Both parties have agreed to a one-week period to finalize the terms of the agreement.”
The new contract between the two entities will be effective for a multi-year term. UAB said the contract will provide “stability and continued access to high-quality care for patients across the state.”
“We’ve reached an agreement in principle that will provide continued, uninterrupted network access to UAB," UnitedHealthcare stated. "Our organizations have extended our current contract through Aug. 8 as we work to finalize the terms of a long-term agreement.”
Patients were told earlier this year that the health system would drop UnitedHealthcare from its network after failed attempts at an agreement. UAB alleged the insurance provider was making a profit at the expense of policyholders.
Details of the new contract's terms have not been released.
