Nova Southeastern guard Will Yoakum scored 33 points and hit nine 3-pointers to lead the Sharks to an 87-62 win over UAH in the NCAA Division II South Region championship on Tuesday night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Yoakum was 12 of 21 from the field and missed just four 3-pointers to help Nova Southeastern advance to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second consecutive year. He also helped the Sharks (33-0) improve their home-court winning streak to 45 games over the past two seasons.
UAH (27-7) opened the season with a 101-81 loss to Nova Southeastern, and they closed the season with a loss to the Sharks. The Chargers trailed 49-28 at halftime, with Yoakum nearly outscoring UAH by himself. Yoakum ended the first half with 26 points.
Chaney Johnson led UAH with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and a steal. He was 8 of 10 from the field and 2 of 3 on 3-pointers. He was the only double-figure scorer for UAH. Max Shulman had all nine of his points on 3-pointers and added five rebounds and five assists in his final game in a UAH uniform. Nova Southeastern outrebounded UAH, 36-27, and won the second chance points, 23-2.
