Leadership at the International Motors Powertrain Plant in Huntsville is fighting back against a United Auto Workers (UAW) attempt to unionize its workforce.
Plant workers recently received a notice that the UAW has filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board of their intent to organize the workforce at the Huntsville powertrain manufacturing facility.
Plant leadership sent a letter to employees on Wednesday in response to UAW’s unionization efforts.
Brandon Tucker, International/Navistar Huntsville Powertrain Plant manager, said in a statement, “Our 25-year track record in Huntsville is a remarkable success story of renewed American manufacturing. Our recent investments of $200 million have created a modern manufacturing plant that produces the best engine and drive train in the industry. Over the past five years, full-time employment has nearly doubled, with strong plans to add many more associates as we fully ramp up our lines. We’re proud of the impact the Huntsville plant’s growth has had on workers, families, and the region. “Our plant and company have worked tirelessly to address issues that come with rapid growth and changes in the industry and economic environment. We are committed to continuous improvement and maintaining Huntsville as a great place to work.”
“We have a great team here in Huntsville, and we respect the rights, opinions, and input of all our team members and welcome their feedback," he continued. "With transparency and facts, we will work to inform them why we believe joining the UAW union is not in the best interest of our team culture, the Huntsville plant, or the community’s future.”
“The city of Huntsville is thriving, and we want to continue to be a strong part of that. We believe prioritizing flexibility, innovation, and direct communication to overcome challenges provides the brightest future for all,” Tucker added.
