Two National Guardsmen were shot on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said on X that he’d received “conflicting reports” on the status of the National Guardsmen who were shot after previously saying they died. One suspect is in custody, according to media reports.

Alabama's federal lawmakers were quick to call for prayers in reaction to the shooting.

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) said, “My prayers are with the guardsmen who were shot in Washington, D.C. today, their families, and their fellow service members.”

“We owe our National Guard our full support as we await more information and ensure those responsible are held fully accountable. Violence against the men and women who serve our nation is unacceptable,” Strong said.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said, “Please join Wesley and me in praying for the National Guard members who were shot in our nation’s capital.”

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said, “Please join me in praying for these National Guard members and their families.”

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said, “Please join me in praying for these National Guard members, their families, and all impacted.”
