The University of South Alabama (USA) responded to an 1819 News media inquiry regarding a sex toy bingo night held at the Student Center last week.
The event, sponsored by Generation Action, Planned Parenthood's college arm, was approved for the university facility.
USA's director of media relations, Lance Crawford, told 1819 News that each of the university's 270 student organizations may request to hold an event, but that they are not required to submit an agenda or detailed event information. However, he acknowledged that the organization held the bingo night and that sex toy prizes were given to winners.
Crawford confirmed that Generation Action is a recognized student organization.
Following the event, Crawford said a few students requested clarification regarding event policies for student organizations. He said students are aware that events must not violate the Student Code of Conduct.

When asked if the university had an official position or guidelines on hosting sex-positive/sexual wellness events that include adult novelty prizes, Crawford answered, "If a recognized student organization schedules an event, the University does not require detailed event information."
1819 News reached out to Generation Action for a response. President Paige Wilson forwarded the email to a professor, stating, "Hi Dr. Rinne, I hope you are doing well. I wanted to share the email we received last night to keep you informed. We do not plan to respond, but we wanted to make sure it was on your radar."
1819 News was copied on the forwarded email, which was sent using a University of South Alabama email address.
