A 23-year-old Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) guard faces a life sentence after she was arrested on Monday on several charges related to attempting to bring contraband into Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton.
During a routine screening of employees, authorities say they discovered contraband in ADOC security guard Arianna Kimberly Slater’s food container, prompting further investigation. After Slater’s arrest, ADOC K-9 officers conducted a search of Slater’s car and other property. They allegedly found a significant amount of contraband, including 45.5 grams of fentanyl, 13 grams of marijuana, cell phones, charging blocks and cables.

Slater was transported and booked into the Barbour County Jail with charges of trafficking fentanyl, second-degree promoting prison contraband and first-degree possession of marijuana.
Slater’s bond was set at $500,000. Court records say she has yet to post bail. In Alabama, those convicted of fentanyl trafficking over 8 grams receive a mandatory life sentence and a minimum fine of $750,000.
