The first person to qualify for the Vestavia Hills City Council this year was Councilwoman Kimberly Cook. With a brief statement and photos on Facebook, Cook declared, "After much prayer and reflection, I have decided to run for a third term."

Kimberly Cook will officially launch her campaign with an event on June 19. Vestavia has four at-large city council seats, and she was first elected in 2016 and holds Place 2.

"Kimberly's focus has been to improve transparency, communications, and bring a higher level of community engagement to city government. She supports our city's upward-trending economic development that allows Vestavia Hills to provide excellent city services and facilities – something our citizens expect and deserve for their hard-earned tax dollars," reads her bio on the city's website.

In her "Council Journal" on her Facebook page, she highlights the projects she has worked on and the successes she has achieved; her latest one could one day save lives. Most recently, she recalls hearing from a friend in March who asked about storm shelters for the Liberty Park area. After conducting some research, she identified two storm shelters that required upgrades and improvements to ensure they were functional in the event of an emergency. By May, one of those shelters was already online.

She and her husband, State Supreme Court Justice Greg Cook, just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. The city bio highlights her community service, saying that she has served in a variety of leadership roles for Christian charitable organizations – on the board of Grace House Christian Home for Girls and Brother Bryan Mission – and is active in her church, having taught youth Sunday School for over 20 years at Dawson Baptist Church. Kimberly Cook serves on the Jefferson County Republican Party Executive Committee and the Alabama GOP Executive Committee. Kimberly Cook is a member of the Leadership Vestavia Hills Class of 2022.
