Former Alabama Republican Party chairman and lieutenant gubernatorial candidate John Wahl warned of growing voter enthusiasm among Democrats nationally during Thursday's broadcast of Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show."
According to Wahl, while the zeal of liberal voters will likely dip in November's midterms compared to more recent elections, the party's base is very much "energized and engaged."
"They won't have [enthusiasm] at that same high level," Wahl said. "That being said, the Democrat base is energized, and it's not about anything here in Alabama. This is about national politics. They used to say all politics was local, and now it's pretty much all politics is national."
Wahl argued that much of the voter enthusiasm from Democrats is driven by contempt for President Donald Trump.
"[Democrats] hate Trump. They hate what's happening there," he outlined. "They're a wounded animal from the 2024 election cycle, where Republicans literally smashed them. Won the popular vote. This was a statement win from Donald Trump in November of 2024, and they're reeling."
Continued Wahl, "Their base is engaged. They are excited. They're coming out just as always happens in the midterms, with a new president in the White House. So the Democrats will be engaged. They're going to be energetic, and they're going to turn out. That's why it's so important that the Republicans are as well."
With a little less than two and a half years remaining for the Trump administration, Wahl called on conservative voters to establish a lasting foundation for the "movement."
"If we're really going to reclaim America, if we're going to restore America and we're going to, in the words of Donald Trump, 'Make America Great Again,' it's not going to end with Donald Trump's election. This has to be a movement that continues both on the federal and state level," added Wahl.
