During a meeting on Thursday, the Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) announced the intent to revoke certifications of Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith and chief deputy Ralph Williams, WBRC reported.

The officers will have an opportunity to present their arguments on why they should be allowed to retain their certifications.

Smith was indicted on six misdemeanor charges of violating article standards for employing law enforcement officers earlier this month.

Williams was indicted on one count of false or misleading information.

The investigation surrounded the hiring of school resource officers and two other deputies. The employees were not certified by the APOSTC, which is required for law enforcement in Alabama.

Smith said the charges are all part of a political attack.
