March Madness is officially underway, and Alabama State started it off with a bang on Tuesday.
With three seconds left in a 68-68 First Four game, the Hornets executed a full-court inbounds play in which the ball bounced around multiple players on both teams until Alabama State's Amarr Knox grabbed it and scored to put his squad up 70-68 over the St. Francis Red Flash with under a second remaining.
Another angle:
Knox finished with a team-high 16 points, with his final two ultimately deciding the game.
"We wanted to throw the ball in long, and we put our tallest, most athletic person to go get the ball," Knox said after the game. "Fortunately, the ball landed with me, I got the rebound and made the layup."
The win marked the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
The Hornets advance into the final 64-team field and play instate No. 1 overall seed Auburn on Thursday at 1:50 p.m. as the No. 16 seed.
