MONTGOMERY — Lieutenant Gov. Will Ainsworth gaveled down Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton (D-Greensboro) on Thursday during a lengthy day in the Senate featuring multiple cloture motions.
The tense exchange happened after a cloture motion to limit debate on Senate Bill 187 by State Sen. Clyde Chambliss (R-Prattville) relating to apps and age verification.
Singleton asked for a point of order. Ainsworth responded, “Here’s the deal: it’s my decision who to recognize for seven years. Seven years since I’ve been in here, I always go to the sponsor and I’m going to continue to do that so that’s the answer to the question that y’all keep asking in different ways. I always go back to the sponsor.”
Singleton responded, “This is a cloture petition to debate. This is not about a motion based on a sponsor. This is a cloture petition.”
Ainsworth gaveled Singleton down and said, “Hey, you’re not recognized.”
