Mobile Archbishop Mark S. Rivituso received his pallium from Pope Leo XIV at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
The pallium, meaning “double cloak,” is a circular band of white lamb’s wool worn by the pope and metropolitan archbishops. It represents their responsibility as religious leaders as a good shepherd carrying lost sheep on his shoulders.
Also receiving the pallium were Archbishop James Golka of the Archdiocese of Denver, Archbishop Ronald Hicks of the Archdiocese of New York and Archbishop James F. Checchio of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Pope Leo XIV also blessed the archbishops.
