The Tuscaloosa Police Department arrested Tuscaloosa County District 4 Commissioner Reginald Murray after an incident on Tuesday at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.
Murray was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental operations and disorderly conduct.
Video shows Murray's arrest.
Investigators said the 66-year-old showed up late for a 9 a.m. awards program. The doors to the school had been locked, and Murray was told he could not enter. That’s when police said Murray continued knocking on the door. The incident occurred after an officer approached Murray.
"As always, our priority Tuesday morning was the safety of students, staff and visitors,” said Tuscaloosa Police chief Brent Blankley. “Once everything had calmed down and we had the opportunity to review what happened, we decided it was appropriate to move forward with charges.”
Officials obtained warrants on Wednesday, and Murray turned himself in. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
