As the war in Iran continues and gas prices rise across the nation, Americans are increasingly concerned about the conflict's impact on their personal income.
Despite the temporary change in cost, conservative lawmakers, including U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), are asking voters to bear the price increase for a few more weeks at the gas pump.
During a call with reporters on Thursday, Tuberville acknowledged the adverse circumstances but said that defeating Iran would be of great benefit to America and the rest of the world.
"Gas prices are still way under what Joe Biden had for four years," Tuberville argued. "People fail to remember that. President Trump came in and got prices so low that it spoiled people for a little while. Now, we deserve cheaper gas, but we can sacrifice for a few weeks while this conflict goes on, where we can make the entire world safe."
The senator spoke about oil prices during President Barack Obama's time in office, while calling President Joe Biden a "disaster" for oil production.
"Iran is a group of people who hate Americans. They want to destroy us. So let's put up with it a little bit longer," Tuberville continued. "But let's go back a little bit. Barack Obama, for eight years, oil was almost $100 a barrel the entire time. Think about that. Nobody complained. Joe Biden was a disaster when it came to oil production, really cut back on it. President Trump is the oil president of the world, and he understands it."
"So, this will go down as soon as this conflict starts to narrow down, but we have to protect our American allies and Americans abroad and Americans here in North America," he added.
According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Alabama as of Thursday is approximately $3.25 per gallon.
