The City of Mobile is celebrating a $30 million investment from the U.S. Navy to train students in the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) to build submarines in Mobile.
Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said the investment will be a game-changer for the city.
“It's a testament to our talented workforce,” said Cheriogotis. “Some of the finest machines in the sky and on the water are already built right here in our city. With the Navy’s support, civilians will soon be building the best vessels below the waves as well.”
“I want to thank the Navy for this investment in our community and I hope the civilians are proud,” he continued. “We are truly doing great things in Mobile. We will build Giants.”
Bishop State Community College will participate in the program.
Cheriogotis said the investment will mean industrial growth and more opportunities for citizens.
