No. 12 Alabama baseball split the first two games of the series with Mississippi State but lost the final game to lose the series. The Crimson Tide moves to 29-8 overall and 8-7 in SEC play on the season.

Here is a recap of the weekend series.

Game One:

A three-run first inning for Mississippi State set the tone as Alabama lost game one of the series 13-3. The Crimson Tide rallied to get the game within one run in the fourth inning, but a seven spot in the fifth for the Bulldogs blew the game wide open.

Justin Lebron highlighted the Alabama offense going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. Lebron drove in two runs as well as scored two on Friday night.

Zane Adams was charged with his second consecutive loss in his ninth start of the season. Adams gave up seven runs on nine hits in just four innings pitched.

Game Two:

Once again, Alabama allowed the road team to get an early lead, allowing a solo home run to the first batter of the game. However, that would be the lone run that Mississippi State would score the entire day as Alabama evened the series with a 4-1 victory.

Richie Bonomolo, Jr. led the Crimson Tide offense with a 2-for-3 day, recording three RBI on a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. Jason Torres delivered an insurance run for Alabama in the seventh inning, finishing his day at the plate 2-for-4 with two singles.

Riley Quick continued to stay hot on the mound, moving to 5-1 on the season with a stellar performance. Quick pitched a career-high 5.1 innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out a career high seven batters. Carson Ozmer preserved the win, earning his 11th save of the season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Game Three:

For the third consecutive game of the series, Mississippi State scored in the opening frame, resulting in a 4-2 Mississippi State win to clinch the series.

The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in the first by way of a two-run home run. Unearned runs in the third and sixth from the Crimson Tide knotted the game up at 2-2, but a pair of solo home runs by Mississippi State in the seventh and eighth innings pushed the Bulldogs past the Crimson Tide.

Alabama was held to just two hits on the day with Bonomolo and Kade Snell driving in the Crimson Tide’s only two runs by way of sacrifice flies.

Tyler Fay started on the mound for Alabama pitching 3.1 innings striking out four batters. After allowing two hits and two runs in the first inning, Fay pitched a hitless 2.1 innings before getting pulled. Braylon Myers came in relief to get the Crimson Tide out of a jam in the sixth, but a solo home run off him in the seventh put the Bulldogs on top and as a result handed Myers the loss.

Alabama will host UAB in a midweek matchup on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The game can be streamed on SEC Network+.
