No. 19 Alabama baseball completed its fourth SEC sweep of the season and second in a row with the series win at South Carolina.
With the weekend sweep, Alabama finishes 35-17 and 16-11 in the SEC.
Here is a recap of the weekend series.
Game One:
Behind a career-best performance from Luke Vaughn and a dominant outing by starter Tyler Fay, No. 19 Alabama baseball cruised to an 8-3 victory over South Carolina on Friday.
Vaughn headlined Alabama's offensive surge on Friday, notching his first career multi-homer game. The first baseman went 2-for-4 with three RBI, with a solo shot in the second inning and later hammering a two-run blast into left field in the eighth. Justin Lebron delivered three RBI of his own, punctuating a massive second inning by drilling a three-run home run.
Fay delivered his best outing of the season, allowing just one run and two hits across seven dominant innings. Sam Mitchell entered the game in relief and finished the final two innings allowing two runs and two hits to seal the victory.
Game Two:
No. 19 Alabama baseball utilized a three-homer day to outlast South Carolina in a 9-6 victory on Saturday. The Crimson Tide relied heavily on the longball to secure their 15th conference win and clinch the weekend series.
Alabama’s bats stayed hot on Saturday, racking up 14 total hits and four extra-base knocks to overwhelm the Gamecocks. Will Plattner entered the game for an injured Brady Neal and provided an offensive spark finishing 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. John Lemm plated three runs with a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
Zane Adams secured his sixth win of the year in his 13th start, overcoming a rocky start to provide 6.0 gritty innings. Despite surrendering five runs, four of which came during a difficult second inning, Adams showed poise by retiring 13 of the next 15 batters he faced. He finished his outing with nine strikeouts and only one walk allowed.
Matthew Heiberger provided two crucial scoreless innings of relief, navigating around two hits and a walk to keep the Gamecocks at bay. Hagan Banks closed the game, surrendering a lone sacrifice fly before recording the final three outs to seal the victory.
Game Three:
No. 19 Alabama baseball held off a late South Carolina surge to complete the weekend sweep with a 7-6 win on Sunday. The Crimson Tide plated seven runs without the use of the longball to provide the pitching staff with the runs needed to grab the victory.
John Lemm finished 1-for-2 on the afternoon, including a two-run double in the first that got the Crimson Tide offense rolling. Eric Hines had a good day at the dish, ending his day 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Miles Upchurch put together one of his best outings of the season and was rewarded with his seventh win of the season. Upchurch pitched six strong innings allowing just one run on six hits while striking out five. Matthew Heiberger recorded the final two outs of the game to secure the victory and earn his third save of the season.
Alabama will host Ole Miss in the final series of the regular season May 14-16 beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.
