No. 12 Alabama baseball grabbed the first game of the series with No. 1 Tennessee but dropped the final two games to lose the series.
The Crimson Tide drop to 22-3 overall and 4-2 in SEC play on the season.
Here is a recap of the weekend series.
Game One:
Alabama opened up the series with a 6-5 victory, handing the current No. 1 team in the nation their second loss of the season.
Justin Lebron continued to drive in runs for the Crimson Tide going 1-for-4 with a three-run double, part of a five-run second inning. Will Plattner extended his hit streak to five games, delivering two hits, an RBI and one run scored.
Zane Adams got the start on the mound for the sixth time this season and picked up his fourth win. Adams allowed four earned runs on six hits and struck out six in 6.1 innings pitched. Carson Ozmer pitched the final four outs and allowed just one hit to earn his sixth save of the season.
Game Two:
Alabama fell short in its Friday matchup against top-ranked Tennessee, unable to overcome an early five-run deficit in a 10-7 loss. Despite rallying in the ninth inning and bringing the tying run to the plate, their efforts were brought to a close by a game-ending strikeout.
Bryce Fowler drove in a team-high two RBI on Friday. Coleman Mizell delivered a solo home run in the ninth, but the comeback fell short.
Riley Quick suffered his first loss of the season with a quick exit after allowing five runs in just two innings pitched.
Game Three:
Unable to put together any offense, Alabama dropped Saturday’s rubber match 9-2 with the Vols taking the series 2-1.
Tennessee held Alabama to just six hits and two runs that the Crimson Tide tacked on in the bottom of the ninth. The only bright spot for the Alabama offense was Justin Lebron picking up his NCAA-leading 50th RBI on the season in the ninth.
Bobby Alcock took to the hill fresh off being named SEC Pitcher of the Week and didn’t have his best stuff. Alcock was bounced from the game after recording just seven outs. He surrendered three runs on five hits in the loss.
Alabama will travel to North Alabama for a midweek matchup on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
