His latest transfer portal appearance ended with Jarret Doege joining the Troy University football program.
The well-traveled Doege, who left Western Kentucky earlier this week, is listed on Troy’s official football roster. The news was first reported on Thursday by The Troy Messenger. Doege began his career as a two-year starter at Bowling Green and spent three years at West Virginia, starting the last two.
Western Kentucky head coach Tyson Helton told reporters earlier Thursday that West Florida transfer Austin Reed would be his team’s starter and confirmed Doege left the program.
“[We] wish him the best of luck,” Helton said while talking to Western Kentucky reporters. “What a great guy, great competitor, really good quarterback. [We] hate to lose him. But I understand, he’s a competitor and I get it. In today’s portal world and all those things, I don’t blame the guy. We’re going to miss the guy because he’s a good person, good teammate.”
Troy coach Jon Sumrall has been complimentary of his team’s quarterbacks during fall camp. Returning starter Gunnar Watson and Utah transfer Peter Costelli are the top two quarterbacks on the depth chart, and Sumrall has praised some young quarterbacks. Doege is another experienced and proven competitor for the quarterback spot.
Doege has thrown for 10,494 yards with 79 touchdowns and 34 interceptions in his college career. In July, he was selected for the 86th Maxwell Award preseason list. The Maxwell Award is given to the top college football player in the country.
Western Kentucky plays host to Troy on October 1.
