AUBURN — Wendell Green, Jr., Auburn’s top returning scorer from the 2021-2022 season, has been named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List for the second-straight year, announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday. Green is one of 20 point guards on the list out of the 363 teams eligible for selection.
The award recognizes the best point guard in the country after each season and was won last year by Villanova’s Collin Gillespie. Green is one of three SEC point guards on the list, along with Jahvon Quinerly of Alabama and Sahvir Wheeler of Kentucky.
Green is one of the most experienced players on the roster after transferring to the Plains last season. In his first season with the Tigers, he averaged 12 points and 5.4 assists per game as he led Auburn to an SEC regular season championship.
His 172 total assists led the team and were the eighth most in a single season in program history.
Green and his team will look to repeat as SEC regular season champions as the season begins against George Mason on November 7.
