U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is beginning to promote policy positions and goals for Alabama as he settles in as a clear frontrunner in the potential race for the state's next governor

What initially looked like a potentially loaded field, Alabama's 2026 gubernatorial election is looking in the bag for the former Auburn football coach, as no candidate with a reasonable chance has yet to seek the Republican nomination.

This week, in a media call with Alabama-based journalists, Tuberville reiterated his reasons for joining the governor's race, touting education and state-based manufacturing among his priorities should he win.

"I'm a builder and I want to make things happen in the state of Alabama," Tuberville told reporters. "I decided after a lot of thought that whether it was here being a U.S. Senator or going home and being the governor or the CEO of the state, where could I help the most? I talked to President Trump about it [and] talked to other people about it, and I think after another year-and-a-half of backing President Trump and getting everything going in the right direction, we're going to have more money, we're going to have more power back in the states from the federal government."

"We'll build a team that's going to have a great game plan, and we're going to hit the ground running. So, I'm looking forward to that. Again, it was a hard decision. We'll get somebody to take this place that will come up here and support President Trump for the last two years of his term. But during those two years, I'll be back in the state. We'll be building. We'll be doing things in education, infrastructure, [and] getting manufacturing to come back to our state, because President Trump says manufacturing is coming. I tell people all the time there's not a week goes by where we don't have manufacturing companies coming from all over the world to my office, wanting to have an opportunity to put a manufacturing facility in the state of Alabama, so I'm excited about that—looking forward to being the next governor," he added.
