Following a runoff to decide the successor of District 4 City Councilman Hunter Pepper, local business owner Pamela Werstler has been elected to fill the seat.

After all ballots were tallied, Werstler reportedly received 62.86% of the vote (562) while Sarah French earned 37.14% (332).

Werstler currently serves on the City of Decatur Personnel Board, Morgan County Personnel Review Board and the Morgan County Chamber Board. She is also the president of the Decatur Women's Chamber.

The runoff for District 4 drew added attention after it was revealed that French allegedly lied to voters about having a felony on her record in an attempt to mislead them in the days leading up to municipal elections.

According to the Alabama Attorney General's office, French was not eligible for the position because of her prior felony conviction. French disregarded the AG's office and still ran.
