Hugh Freeze has not been messing around on the recruiting trail since taking over the Auburn football program in December.

Big Cat Weekend, one of Auburn's biggest recruiting efforts, took place over the weekend, and the Tigers have seen an immediate return on their investment.

A few days before the event, Demarcus Riddick, a five-star linebacker, flipped his commitment from Georgia to Auburn, earning the Tigers their first five-star since 2019. The Clanton native is the No. 26 player nationally, the No. 3 linebacker and the No. 3 player in the state of Alabama, according to 247Sports.

Auburn picked up two commitments during the event.

The first was Malcolm Simmons, a four-star athlete from Alexander City. According to 247Sports, Simmons is the No. 365 player nationally, the No. 33 athlete and the No. 21 player in the state of Alabama.

The main event of the weekend was arguably Perry Thompson, a five-star wide receiver from Foley announcing his flip from Alabama to Auburn. Thompson joins Riddick as the second five-star recruit in the class. He is the No. 14 player in the country, the No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama, according to 247Sports.

These commitments rose Auburn's class to the 17th-best in the country according to 247Sports. Auburn currently has 14 players committed. The Tigers have commitments from two five-stars, 11 four-stars and one three-star. The two five-stars are Riddick and Thompson.

Auburn's four-star commitments:

  • Walker White, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, is the No. 100 player nationally and the No. 9 quarterback.

  • Joseph Phillips, a native of Tuskegee, Alabama, is the No. 149 player nationally and the No. 8 linebacker.

  • Jalyn Crawford, a native of Lilburn, Georgia, is the No. 159 player nationally and the No. 15 cornerback.

  • J'Marion Burnette, a native of Andalusia, Alabama, is the No. 185 player nationally and the No. 13 running back.

  • A'Mon Lane, a native of Moody, Alabama, is the No. 222 player nationally and the No. 17 cornerback.

  • Bryce Cain, a native of Mobile, Alabama, is the No. 332 player nationally and the No. 51 wide receiver.

  • Jayden Lewis, a native of Anniston Alabama, is the No. 359 player nationally and the No. 29 cornerback.

  • Martavious Collins, a native of South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, is the No. 579 player nationally and the No. 52 athlete.

Auburn's lone three-star commit is D'Angelo Barber, a native of Pinson, the No. 534 player nationally and the No. 51 linebacker.

There is still a long way to go in the 2024 cycle, but Freeze and company are well on their way to a highly-ranked recruiting class this season.
