For the second time this month, a person died from a crash at Barber Motorsports Park.

Silke Maria Crombie, 56, of Mars Hill, N.C., died on October 15, eight days after an on-track crash, according to Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates.

Yates said Crombie was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 1:47 p.m. Sunday. Friends said she suffered a brain aneurysm and heart attack while on the track. She was taken to UAB, where she was placed on life support but never regained consciousness.

The U.S. Sidecar Racing Association is working on an award in her honor. The award will be presented to someone who exhibits generosity, as the association said Crombie always did.

A 74-year-old man from California died earlier this month after a crash at the park. Robert Eugene Aegerter died at UAB Hospital on October 9, one day after his crash.

Barber Motorsports Park has not responded to a media inquiry concerning the deaths.
