The Gulf Shores Police Department is investigating after a woman crashed into a retention pond near the Freestanding Emergency Department.
The incident occurred around 11:17 a.m. Monday in the 3400 block of Gulf Shores Parkway. Police and fire responded to find the vehicle partially submerged in the pond.
“Officers, firefighters and nearby passersby quickly entered the water as the vehicle continued to sink,” the Gulf Shores Police Department stated.
The 50-year-old driver was extricated from the vehicle, and first responders attempted life-saving measures. The woman was then taken to the freestanding ER, where she passed away.
Officials said the woman was from Foley.
“Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with her family during this difficult time,” police stated. “This incident remains under active investigation. Further details will be released as they become available.”
