The woman accused of attempting to rob Jeff Dennis Jewelers in Gardendale on December 6 had a first call in court Wednesday.

According to a court affidavit, Heather Denis Wright, 32, of Nauvoo, brought a hammer and bear mace into the store. The owner of the store shot Wright in the shoulder, and she fled the scene, police said.

Wright was later arrested at a home in Birmingham and charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and three counts of criminal use of defense spray.

Gardendale Police thanked the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the Birmingham Police Department, the Kimberly Police Department and the Fultondale Police Department for assisting in the case.

Wight is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.

She was also charged in October with felony theft and burglary in an unrelated case. The burglary charge was for remaining in an unoccupied building.

Wright is considered innocent until proven guilty.
