The World Games 2022 ends Sunday with the Closing Ceremony presented by Coca-Cola Bottling UNITED at Protective Stadium in Birmingham beginning at 8 p.m.

The grand finale features scores of musical acts, with live performances by Closing Ceremony headliner and Alabama native Lionel Richie. Other performers on the lineup include Allison Sanders, Blind Boys of Alabama, Jamey Johnson, Martha Reeves, Pastor Mike Jr., Yung Bleu, Alabama, Bo Bice, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks and Worth the Wait.

The Closing Ceremony will also include the ceremonial passing of The World Games flag to representatives for the next host city of The World Games – Chengu, China – for the international competition’s next edition in 2025.

“The city of Birmingham definitely showed up and showed out for 11 memorable days of competition here in the Magic City,” The World Games 2022 CEO Nick Sellers said. “Now, it’s time to cap the biggest sports party in Alabama history with an epic send-off befitting this amazing event and these incredible athletes.”

Tickets for the Closing Ceremony are still available.

Spectators are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early because of limited parking options and road closures bordering the secure perimeter around the BJCC and The World Games Plaza presented by Regions at CityWalk BHM.

Gates at Protective Stadium open at 6 p.m. for the Closing Ceremony.

The World Games Plaza at CityWalk BHM and the Uptown area offers plenty of entertainment and food options for fans who arrive early.

Additional important information:

·      A clear bag policy will be in effect for the Closing Ceremony.

·      All concession and merchandise sales will be cashless.

·      Road closures for the BJCC/Protective Stadium/downtown area can be found here.

TWG 2022 officials encourage the public to “Ride The Line” and utilize the color-coded shuttle service that will transport fans around the city throughout The Games. Here is key information about this free shuttle and other parking options:

·      Park at Legion Field and take the blue line to the Hub at The Plaza

·      Park at The World Games East Parking Hub and take the green line to the Hub at the plaza

·      Paid Parking at BPA Deck 4 – 2128 4th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203

·      Accessible Parking – Orange Lot – 1000 19th St. N, Birmingham AL

Other transportation, such as ride-sharing and scooters, are available throughout the downtown area.

The World Games 2022 officials also caution fans to prepare for hot and humid conditions, which is normal for Birmingham during mid-summer.

Spectators are permitted to enter outdoor venues with clear, non-glass, refillable water bottles to enjoy complimentary water at The World Games. Water is available free of charge and located for refills near concession areas and main walkways.

“The Closing Ceremony presented by presented by Coca-Cola Bottling UNITED gives Birmingham one more chance to show the world just how special Alabama is,” Sellers said.
