Birmingham is hosting the 2025 World Police and Fire Games, also known as "The Games of Heroes."

First responders from around the world will come together to compete in a variety of competitions, ranging from darts, flag football and soccer, to the Ultimate Firefighter and the K-9 competition.

Opening ceremonies will be held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex's (BJCC) City Walk and Legacy Arena, but many events will be planned across the Birmingham metro and as far as Montgomery County. Shooting competitions will take place at Talladega CMP and Dixie Trap and Gun Club. Other venues used will be the Birmingham Crossplex, Hoover Met Complex, Oak Mountain State Park, the Lyric and Alabama Theatres, Regions Field, Rickwood Field, Samford University, Talladega Superspeedway and more.

Jefferson County EMA director Jim Coker told 1819 News the event is gearing up to be a success.

"We are expecting people from Brazil and all over to be here and to stay in the hotels and eat at the restaurants," said Coker. "So, Alabama police, fire and EMS are well represented but there will be a lot of competition."

Over 600 athletes from Alabama have signed up to take part in the games.
