The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating a double fatal crash that occurred Saturday on Interstate 85.
Salvador Garcia Barrera, 36, was driving a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder that struck the 2018 Ford F-150 driven by Ronald Engel, 67, of Notasulga.
Troopers responded to the crash near the 11-mile marker at approximately 5:30 a.m. and found both men dead on the scene.
Cpt. Jeremy Burkett said the crash was less than a mile north of Montgomery but did not release further details.
According to court documents, Garcia-Barrera was ticketed in 2020 and 2023 for not having a license. In 2023, he was also cited for three counts of no child restraint. In 2020, he was also cited for operating a vehicle without insurance. He failed to appear in court each time.
1819 News has inquired about Garcia-Barrera's immigration status.
