The man charged in the murder of Aniah Blanchard was sentenced Thursday to life in prison.
Visiting Judge Tom Young sentenced Ibraheem Yazeed to life in prison on both felony murder and murder. However, one of those counts must be dismissed to prevent double jeopardy.
Yazeed, 36, was found guilty of both counts last month for the 2019 kidnapping and shooting death of the 19-year-old Southern Union State Community College student.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Blanchard was abducted from an Auburn gas station, shot in the head and dumped in rural Macon County.
Blanchard's mother, Angela Haley-Harris, said her family hoped for a stronger conviction and told followers on social media that she would reveal more information after sentencing.
