Just over one week after Auburn’s season came to an end, two of the three signees from the 2022 Auburn basketball class will be entering the transfer portal. Yohan Traore announced his decision to enter the portal on Tuesday in an Instagram post. Along with Traore, it was first reported by Joe Tipton of On3Sports that Chance Westry planned to transfer from the Tigers.
“I am grateful to be a part of the Auburn Tiger community,” said Traore in his post. “My time at Auburn has taught me lessons that extend far beyond the basketball court. I have given 100% to the University on and off of the court.”
Traore is a former five-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 24 player in the country according to 247Sports and the No. 5 center in the nation. He appeared in 25 games for the Tigers, with zero starts and 9.9 minutes per game. He finished the season with 2.1 points per game and 1.4 rebounds per game.
“I will always remember and appreciate you,” Traore said of the Auburn community. “But the time has come for me to enter the transfer portal and take that next step as a basketball player.”
As for Westry, while the freshman has not formally announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, it was first reported by Joe Tipton before several other Auburn reporters posted similar stories.
A former four-star, Westry could never truly begin after off-season knee surgery prevented him from being 100%. That same injury, combined with the emergence of Tre Donaldson, kept him out of the rotation in SEC play and led to his decision to redshirt this season.
Westry appeared in just 11 games for the Tigers, playing a total of 105 minutes and finished the year with 2.5 points per game, and one assist per game while shooting 31.6% from the field.
Auburn has one recruit coming in next season, four-star point guard Aden Holloway. Holloway is the No. 27 player in the country according to 247Sports.
