HUNTSVILLE — U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) delivered remarks on Monday morning at the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce's 2026 Washington Update.

Following the speech, the senator joined reporters for a press gaggle, speaking on several topics, including the likelihood that President Donald Trump would seek congressional approval for the growing conflict in Iran.

"He's probably not going to do that," Tuberville said. "You don't need to. Nobody has, Democrat or Republican. A lot of my colleagues want Congress to do it. But there's no way you can get 535 people to agree on anything. We can't get 200 people to agree on anything. After 60 days, there has to be approval if you continue to fight. We're in the second week, and so we have a few more weeks before we'll have to address that."

He added, "I think Trump is trying to clean up a mess. I think at the end of the day, what's going to happen is you have a grace period where Congress, more and more, gets involved. If you want to have a vote on a war, you don't fund it," explained Tuberville. "That's what will happen. Funding is going to have to come from Congress. It didn't come from the President."

"Whoever is against it or whoever's for it will have the opportunity to make a decision if they want to fund the war or not fund the war after so many weeks," concluded Tuberville.

Rather than fighting for congressional approval to launch a military action against Iran, the Trump administration instead opted to notify key congressional leaders shortly before the operation began. So far, the House and Senate have both rejected resolutions aimed at limiting U.S. military actions in the Middle Eastern country.
