Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl recently took former President Barack Obama to task for calling on Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza amid its ongoing war with Hamas.
In posts on X, Obama urged for "immediate action" to be taken to prevent Gazans from starving as the war rages on, linking New York Times articles highlighting the lack of available food and water in Gaza.
"While a lasting resolution to the crisis in Gaza must involve a return of all hostages and a cessation of Israel’s military operations, these articles underscore the immediate need for action to be taken to prevent the travesty of innocent people dying of preventable starvation," Obama wrote on Sunday.
He added, "Aid must be permitted to reach people in Gaza. There is no justification for keeping food and water away from civilian families."
Pearl, who has been outspoken in support of Israel as a Jewish-American, responded to the former president by pointing out that he had created "this mess" and questioned why he wasn't calling on Hamas to release hostages and end the war.
"You gave billions to Iran and Hamas creating this mess and not one word from you calling for THEM to release the hostages, surrender and end the War! Tell Hamas to 1) Quit stealing and reselling aid 2) Stop attacking GHF workers who are feeding Gazans. 3) Leave and end suffering," the coach wrote.
