
Austal USA in Mobile began building a U.S. Navy towing, salvage and rescue ship. It will be the Navy’s seventh ship of its kind and it is named after an American hero.

The U.S. Navy christened the USNS Billy Frank Jr. (T-ATS 11) during a ceremony on Saturday. The ceremony was held at Austal USA in Mobile with the family of Billy Frank, Jr.

A federal judge approved on Monday a plea agreement between federal prosecutors and the Alabama-based U.S. Navy shipbuilder Austal USA LLC, levying a $24 million fine for fraudulently valuing its ships to "mislead" its investors and shareholders.

A federal jury indicted the three men after prosecutors said they conspired to mislead Austal Limited’s shareholders about the company’s financial situation.
