Luck ran out Wednesday for the operators of at least two bingo halls in Jefferson County when the Alabama Attorney General’s Office raided the locations for not having business licenses.

Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway recently said he was glad the County Commission decided not to renew business licenses for electronic bingo halls. However, he had the legal means to shut the operations down all along.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall held a press conference Wednesday morning, releasing some details on the closure of several bingo halls in Jefferson County.

Victoryland Casino officials are asking the Alabama Supreme Court to reconsider its decision to ban “electronic bingo” in Lowndes and Macon Counties. 

A recent Supreme Court of Alabama ruling banning “electronic bingo” in Lowndes and Macon counties “makes clear what my office has maintained from the start: these gambling enterprises are not only patently illegal under Alabama law, but also a menace to public health, morals, safety, and welfare,” according to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.
