Approximately 75 people packed the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship church Tuesday evening for a town hall by Read Freely Alabama and the Alabama Library Association.
A large crowd turned out Monday for the Fairhope Public Library’s monthly board meeting. The majority of those in attendance were there to support the library amid controversy over books some say are inappropriate for children and teens.
The Fairhope City Council heard from more concerned citizens Monday about inappropriate material being reported in the Fairhope Public Library.
In the teen section of the Fairhope Public Library, there are books that address inherent racism, suicide ideation, LGBT issues and teenage sexuality. For Pride Month, several of these books were put on display. Now, some parents are taking action to ensure no one can check out the titles.
