
The Alabama State Department of Education Annual Report Card is out, and Orange Beach City Schools is celebrating ranking number two in the state, only behind Mountain Brook City Schools.

Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon said he believes an argument over the distribution of a sales tax for schools in Baldwin County is politically motivated.

Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon said on FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show" Thursday he thinks the public complaints about a Baldwin County tax could have led to failure of the Alabama Legislature to make a change.

An issue of tax distribution among school systems in Baldwin County is now up to the legislature.

During an interview with Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5 on Wednesday, Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon defended his city's system to split from the Baldwin County Public School system.

The Baldwin County Public School system receives 100% of the education portion of a one-cent sales tax that the state legislature levied in 2017.

After a review of the books offered, 1819 News identified seven books that contained foul language or explicit sexual content. Now, Superintendent Randy Wilkes said a regular review of the selection may be warranted.

After working with the State of Alabama Department of Education, the Orange Beach School System has been cleared of owing millions to the Education Foundation Program.
