U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R–Auburn) applauded President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon or commute the sentences of those jailed or charged in connection to the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, despite the move garnering a bevy of criticism.
Trump has granted pardons and clemency to an estimated 1,500 individuals convicted in connection to the riots of January 6, including some from and with connections to Alabama.
Governor Kay Ivey appointed Bureau of Pardons and Paroles operations director Gabrelle Simmons to the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles on Friday.
Testimony from former Trump aides named Brooks as well as Reps. Matt Gaetz (Florida), Louie Gohmert (Texas), Andy Biggs (Arizona), and Scott Perry (Pennsylvania) as having sought pardons from President Trump in the days following the Capitol Building attack.
