Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday signed into law recently passed legislation allowing citizens to voluntarily surrender firearms to Federal Firearms License holders for a determined period of time, touted as a means of aiding those suffering from suicidal ideation.

This day serves as both a time for reflection and gratitude and as an opportunity to address the pressing mental health needs of our veterans.

We all want to prevent suicides and help emergency mental health services, but when the state has more money than ever, why is the answer a new tax?  

Alabama will join the rest of the nation on July 16 in integrating a three-digit phone number to help citizens address all mental health, substance use, and suicide crises.
