The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division is investigating after a double-fatal crash early on Wednesday, March 2.

The crash happened three miles east of Elkmont, Ala., on Interstate 65.

Troopers said a 2017 Hino box truck, driven by Edgardo V. Pacheco, 54, left the roadway, struck a guardrail, and fell off the overpass. The truck landed on railroad tracks below. A short time later, a CSX train struck the disabled vehicle.

Pacheco, who lived in La Vergne, Tenn., and an 18-year-old, were killed. The 18-year-old’s identity has not been released.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m.

No further information has been released by investigators.
