With the qualifying period closed, at least three members of the Hoover City Council will be vacating their seats.

Curt Posey was the first to announce that he would not seek reelection. His decision was followed by Sam Swiney, who announced last month that he would also not be returning. And the question "Will he or won't he?" was finally answered when the deadline passed, and John Lyda did not qualify.

Councilman Derek Murphy and Councilwoman Khristi Driver are facing opposition, while Councilmen Steve McClinton and Casey Middlebrooks qualified without opposition.

Of those who have chosen not to run for reelection, Lyda has served since first being sworn in on November 5, 2012. Posey was sworn in on November 7, 2016. Swiney was first elected on November 2, 2020.
