A former St. Michael Catholic High School softball coach is charged with a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19 following a months-long investigation.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office began investigating allegations that Leonard Anthony Rizzuto, 60, of Daphne, had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.
Investigators found evidence the relationship began during the 2020-2021 school year.
"Some of the alleged acts took place at an off-campus practice facility as well as his private residence in Daphne, Alabama," said Lt. Andrew Ashton.
Deputies arrested Rizzuto and booked him into the Baldwin County Jail on Wednesday. He posted a $15,000 bond and was released Thursday. Conditions of his bond state he cannot have contact with the victim or her family, and he cannot have contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Rizzuto was the head softball coach but was released from that position after the 2021 season.
The case was sent to the grand jury. Rizzuto will be arraigned on December 4.
"The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and its partners in law enforcement are committed to continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend individuals who engage in illegal activities to ensure the safety and well-being of all children," Ashton reminded citizens.
