An Abbeville daycare worker has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse.

Maya Shante Kelley, 32, was arrested on Wednesday and placed in the Henry County Jail. She is charged with six counts of willful child abuse and one count of aggravated child abuse. She was released Thursday on a $40,000 bond.

Police did not release the daycare's name, nor is it listed in any criminal complaints.

The warrant alleges that Kelley abused a four-year-old boy multiple times in early December. The arrest came after a weeks-long police investigation.

The charges claim Kelley pushed a child's chair against a table, squeezing the child's chest between the chair and the table. She is also accused of forcing a child to stay in a corner while she threatened him, dragging him across the ground, screaming in the child's face and grabbing the child's shirt, which constricted around his neck.
