Lance LeFleur is retiring as the director of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
LeFleur started as director of ADEM in May 2010. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA in management/finance from Southern Methodist University.
"Director LeFleur announced during the Alabama Environmental Management Commission meeting on December 13, 2024, that he would retire from his duties, effective May 1, 2025," M. Lynn Battle, an ADEM spokesperson, told 1819 News on Friday.
After a recent job performance review, members of the Alabama Environmental Management Commission voted to increase LeFleur's salary from $210,739 to $221,517.60 at a meeting in October.
ADEM has posted a job notice for LeFleur's replacement. The agency administers major environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and solid and hazardous waste statutes.
