CULLMAN — U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) served in Congress alongside then-U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) for nearly 12 years before Walz was elected the governor of Minnesota. Now that he’s been picked as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 presidential election, Aderholt said he’s “shocked” to see how radical the former congressman has become.

During Thursday night's Cullman County Republican Party annual dinner and auction, Aderholt explained that he was never close to Walz when they served together in the House.

“We were in different political parties, so we didn’t really work closely together," he said. "But since he’s become the governor of Minnesota, he has pulled himself so far to the left. And it’s just shocking to me what he did.”

Aderholt continued, “The way that he supports abortion up to the time of birth. He signed a law that put tampons in the boys' bathroom in schools for elementary kids. And the list just goes on.”

Walz has also been criticized for allowing illegal migrants to attain a driver's license and for allegedly lying about his military service.

Aderholt encouraged the crowd to help put former President Donald Trump back in the White House and help elect a Republican House and Senate to “stop the Harris-Walz agenda.”

State Rep. Randall Shedd (R-Fairview), State Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate, State Auditor Andrew Sorrell, Secretary of State Wes Allen, Alabama Republican Party chair John Wahl, Cullman County Commission chairman Jeff Clemons and a host of other Cullman officials also spoke at the dinner event.
