MONTGOMERY — The 2024 election results need to be finalized in a “timely” manner, according to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.

While some national pundits have predicted presidential results in some swing states could take days or even weeks to declare a winner after Election Day on Tuesday, Marshall told members of the Montgomery Rotary Club on Monday he hoped that wouldn’t be the case.

“The hope that I have particularly as somebody kind of watching it from a national perspective as AGs typically have gotten engaged in some of these battles is we just need to know," Marshall said.

"We all obviously want the election to be fair and accurate, but it needs to be timely, too," he continued. "And when we have days and days that go on in which there is no finality to it…number one it gives people the opportunity to allege conspiracy theories that may or may not exist (and) it gives them an unsettled nature about the certainty of the election, and it will jeopardize the ability of whoever wins to be an effective leader moving forward."

Election Day is Tuesday.
