In a recently released video, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth offered his full support for State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise), as he seeks to defeat former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) and others in the race for Alabama's first congressional district.
The pair will face four other candidates for the party nomination in the upcoming May 19 Republican primary.
Carl narrowly lost his AL-1 seat in 2024 after then-AL-2 incumbent U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) sought the seat following a federally mandated redrawing of the state's congressional map intended to create a minority district.
Now, with Moore seeking to replace U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) in the U.S. Senate, Carl is running to reclaim his old seat.
Marques, who was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2018, has already received major endorsements from lawmakers at the state and federal levels. Despite the endorsements, Carl maintains an apparent lead in most polling, albeit with a significant portion of undecided voters.

On Monday, Marques dropped a new ad, this time featuring Ainsworth giving him a full endorsement, calling him a "MAGA, Trump Republican through and through."
"He has stood tall in the Alabama House, cutting taxes on groceries, protecting the unborn, defending our Second Amendment gun rights, and banning mud dumping in Mobile Bay," Ainsworth said. "Rhett Marques is a doer, not a talker, and he'll make Alabama's wiregrass and gulf coast proud."
