The 2026 governor’s race could be one for the “history books,” according to Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is leaning towards running to be Alabama’s next governor in 2026. Ainsworth, who is term-limited from serving another term in his current role, has also expressed interest in being Alabama’s next governor.

Ainsworth said on X on Wednesday that he’s “getting into running shape.”

When asked about the post, Ainsworth told 1819 News, “It’s an official announcement that I’m eating Wheaties, getting in shape, and think the next year or so may be interesting.”
