Alabama Republicans sided with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance's meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday.

Trump, Vance, and Zelenskyy engaged in a heated back-and-forth at a White House meeting on Friday over the amount of support the United States has given Ukraine.

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) said in a statement, "I have supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia's illegal invasion. However, a serious effort must be made to reach a peace deal, as this three-year-long war cannot continue indefinitely with ongoing casualties and increasing demands on American taxpayers."

"I was disappointed by President Zelenskyy's disrespectful conduct in the Oval Office, which I believe harmed Ukraine's position in this conflict. President Trump remains open to a deal, and I am hopeful that a resolution can be reached," Aderholt said.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) told 1819 News on Friday, "As President Trump has repeatedly stated, his ultimate goal is sustainable peace."

"We are witnessing the return of President Trump's peace through strength doctrine – no longer will our great nation be taken advantage of. President Trump and his team remain committed to ending this war and putting America first," Britt said.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said, "President Trump and Vice President Vance are showing the world that the United States is once again leading with strength."

"Thankful for leaders in the White House who put America First every day!" Moore said.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said, "Glad to see @realDonaldTrump and @JDVance standing up and putting America First!"

One Democrat in Alabama's Congressional delegation disagreed.

U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) said, "Watching President Trump and VP Vance talk down to President Zelensky in the Oval Office was embarrassing."

"Trump and Vance should show some respect to a wartime leader who is routinely on the front lines defending democracy against a dictator. Instead, Trump is trying to extort Ukraine out of their mineral rights to make his friends rich," Figures said. "To President Zelensky—you deserved better. Stay strong and keep fighting. True lovers of democracy have your back."
