House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was re-elected mostly along party lines on Friday.

Every House Republican from Alabama voted for Johnson. U.S. Reps. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) and Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) voted for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

"We have a very thin majority and no time to waste. It's clear the American people want change. Everybody understands the southern border has to be secure; we have to deal with our crippling debt and restore common sense policies to bring down inflation. We have a mandate to support President Trump's agenda, and I want to get to work as soon as possible. I'm looking forward to accomplishing real change for North Alabamians during this Congress and that includes bringing Space Command to Redstone Arsenal," U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) said on Friday.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said Johnson was ready to enact President-elect Donald Trump's agenda on day one.

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said, "Now is the time to pass sound policies and further the conservative agenda!"
